Chimney Dangers : Cobwebs
Dangers of Cobwebs and Carbon Monoxide
Some chimneys are prone to collecting cobwebs.
This may seem to be a minor irritation, however,
cobwebs can block the flow of carbon monoxide (CO)
gases from the home. This is a common and
expected result of solid fuel fires. What may not be
commonly known is the fact that simple cobwebs may
cause the blockage and
these invisible and scentless
fumes are a dangerous
hazard to your family.
It is
most worrying in the case of gas fires. This is because
cobwebs may stop the carbon monoxide from going up
the chimney as normal and cause dangerous carbon
monoxide build up in the home.
Carbon monoxide is
a dangerous, poisonous gas which can
cause serious
illness, brain damage and even death.
